trash day

I have mentioned before that I frequent certain websites that are geared towards pilot wives.  One topic came up that I figured I would blog about: trash day.

It is probably fact that pilot wives always take out the trash and pilots don't know when trash day is.  Sucks to me us, huh?

I always take the trash out to the curb.  Ok, let me take that back...Steve took the trash out about a month ago.  I think that was the first time he has done it in the new house, and yes it happens so infrequently that I actually remember when he does do it.  Steve is rarely home on trash day, so I am always stuck with the chore.

Every eve of trash day I go around the house, empty all the trash cans, including the diaper genie, and head to the curb.  Don't forget the recycling container.

Of course I have to do what I have to do, but boy would it be nice to have Steve take the trash out from time to time.  Since I can't count on that, I am starting Ben at a young age to help out with chores.  This was actually taken a good while ago at our old house:

  1. Aww that is so cute. I know what you mean about the trash day thing. My husband does it when home but has to be prompted to do it because he is gone quite often as well.

  2. My husband is home often enough that he participates in trash day pretty regularly. He'd point the finger at me as the ignorant one on this topic.

'Cause when he's not home? Well, just because trash pick-up comes by twice a week, doesn't mean we have to take the trash out that frequently, right? If he's away for one pick-up and will be home for the next one, I don't take out the trash. And if he's away for two in a row (like this week), I only take it out once.

Now, if we were to talk about another household activity - laundry and kid pickup and dropoff from school and extracurriculars all come to mind - he hasn't figured out those schedules, yet. Actually, that brings up another point: schedules. He has his work schedule (monthly as well as individual trip details) and I have my work schedule and the kids have their schedules and we maintain them all separately. Silly, I know. Someday maybe we'll all get it together.

  3. you have two trash pick-ups? Nice! And if we had two, like you, I would do the exact same thing.

My schedule with the kids school and my work is so the same every single day, that it is easy for Steve to remember it.
