Here we go again

Steve ran his first marathon in 2008.

It was his first marathon, and he did alright.  Training for him was challenging since there is a pretty big learning curve on how your body handles those long runs.

Training was a challenge for me since he was already gone a lot for work, and then he would go out for hours and hours and hours for his long runs...every.single.week...all.summer.long...

and here we go again...

But you know what, I am not going to be a whiny bitch about it.  I am going to embrace it.

In fact, Steve had a 5 mile run on Friday, and I loaded the kids up in the bike trailer, and off we went with him.  The kids had fun, I hope.  And I am sure Steve liked the company.

I am proud that he is going to do this again.  As I mentioned, he did alright on his last one, mainly due to a knee injury, so he wants to do better this time.  I will do my best to support him.  I will do my best to make the kids know how important it is to be healthy and strong.

This training, right now, is the one thing that Steve asks.  I can't be the one to tell him 'no'.  As much as I want to sleep in on Saturday mornings, he is getting up at 6am so that he can get these long runs out of the way so he can spend the rest of the day with us.  Give and take...and compromise.

Since he is gone all the time, the last thing I want is for him to be gone more.  But, again, I won't whine about it.  I will embrace it.  I will support him...and we will be the ones cheering the loudest when he crosses the finish line in the fall!

And for extra picture fun, here is Steve running the National half marathon in 2010.

  2. Akron. Bare with me...maybe we should get the group together and run the relay. You in? I know mike would do it. Steve would count for a leg, so that leaves just one more. Matt?

  3. Good luck to both of you. Training is definitley a team effort once you have a family. It's definitely a great way to pass the time on an layover though.

Your son is adorable, and the race poster is a riot.
