music

I had a 3 1/2 hour drive today, with no kids.  What does that mean?  Time to think.  Time alone in a car also means I jam out pretty good.  Yes, I am that girl rockin' out in my rockin' station wagon.

If you have been following my blog for a while, you probably think you kind of know me.  What better way to get to know me better than my choice of music.  No, this post doesn't really have anything to do with being a pilot wife.  But, it does give you a different side of me.  Music and smells always bring up memories and take you to a different place.  Maybe it is a filler post, but I think it is still fun.

Now, the song that came up that made me think of this post was Differences - Ginuwine.  I have to thank my college roommate, and still dear dear friend, for getting me interested in R&B.  Most of my downloads on iTunes are R&B...and what comes naturally with R&B, but Soul.  You probably wouldn't guess, but I am totally drawn to this genre.  Recent R&B/Soul downloads are: Motivation-Kelly Rowland, All of the Lights - Kanye West, Fall for Your Type - Jamie Foxx, Sure Thing - Miguel, and don't laugh but his latest one has a super great beat, Quickie.

As for my ultimate favorite group, hands down Dave Matthews Band.  This obsession started in college, and even though I don't play their songs every day, I can always fall back on any of their songs.  Grey Street is probably my favorite song from them.

What was our first dance at our wedding? Make Someone Happy - Jimmy Durante.
This was taken by a college friend at our wedding.  Steve was dipping me at the end of our dance.  Hands down, my favorite picture from the day.

Another popular play on our iTunes is Lucky Man - The Verve.  This is Steve's doing.  I think he has gone so far as saying that it is his anthem.  Another top favorite for Steve is Thunderstruck - ACDC.  It takes him back to the locker room before high school football games.

The one song that will always take me to thoughts of Steve from my college years is:  I Love You Always and Forever - Donna Lewis.  I clearly remember the moment: Steve drove up for a date.  We were in my bedroom, and I was finishing getting ready.  I still remember the pants I wore, and Steve's comment on my choice of underwear.  He was sitting on my bed and I was across the room in front of the mirror.  This song came on the radio, or tv, and I started singing it.  I turned around and sang "you've got the most unbelievable blue eye" and I think that I saw some tears in his eyes.  It was just a very defining moment in our relationship...he may not admit, or even remember, that moment.  I will always remember it.

Speaking of crying, there are two songs that define me and Ben..and me bawling like a baby.  The first song Steve played for us when we came home from the hospital.  Ben was just 2 days old, and as we pulled onto our street Steve pushed play and Our House - Crosby, Still Nash and Young came on.  I bawled.

The other song was played at a coworkers wedding.  She was dancing with her father to Lullabye - Billy Joel, and I was sitting in my chair bawling pretty good.  Ben was only about a year, and it was just very touching.

Go figure, I also like jazz.  You can't go wrong with Miles Davis.  Kind of Blue is just wonderful, and I have a Peace Corps friend to thank for that one.  I also enjoy soft jazz like A Long Walk - Jill Scott.  And you can never go wrong with Diana Krall.

It may be my European roots, or my time living in Slovakia, but I am also way into Techno/Dance.  My latest obsession is In the Dark - Dev.  She also sang Like a G6 - Far East Movement.  Totally love the song...totally don't love the fact that the G6 has actually crashed in testing.  But G5 just doesn't have the same ring to it, I suppose.

And I, of course, like Pop.  I love pretty much anything Rhianna puts out, with Rude Boy probably being my favorite.  I also totally dig Mike Posner, especially Bow Chicka Wow Wow. Another top played on my iTunes is Carry Out - Justin Timberlake and Timbaland.

So, there you have it.  My top few songs.  Now, anytime you may hear one of these songs on the radio you can think of me.  Or, is the better question what song is now stuck in your head?
